Now I actually play my drums and keep my chops and tactile feel in good working order. The Gravity S has a sturdy 24 millimeter beam and a 16×20 string pattern. 1 ounce unstrung weight makes the S incredibly fast through the air despite the larger 104 square inch head. This kit includes a hard-shell carrying case, a soft scope case and a fully adjustable compact light weight tripod. The tri-pod features a multi-directional tilting head with segmented adjustable legs to keep it level even on uneven ground. Again, not as much as the sound of a normal acoustic kit, but it still sounds like an acoustic drum . Learning rudiments on a snare is brutal for anyone else within earshot without this head on it!!

The head was priced similarly to the STX Eclipse unstrung, but I was intrigued by the $150 price tag of the strung head. I can send it in and get it exchanged at zero cost. The head of the stick is perfect and never warps. I’ve never had to deal with trying to unpinch the head.

For snare drums, I suspect this would work better for wood than for metal (I haven’t tried it on metal, but it works amazingly well on the cheap wooden snare I put the head on). If you’ve got a kit you can dedicate to practice, these heads are the way to go. SP overlay your heads, and so can be put on and taken off in a snap, but they all have the same feel.
All that hooie being said, these heads also have their limitations. Playing on a regular acoustic set is best, if and when you can do it. Dynamics are an important part of drumming and playing on a real kit is the only way to hone that in. Textured LTH fibers provide a more enhanced feel for the ball while decreasing the overall weight of the mesh. The Striker option features two stripes down the middle of the mesh, while the Storm option pushes the color strip to the outside. Could I ask what prim-count and/or land impact the house you chose has?

Com for the Mark 2A might be the best pockets I’ve used over my entire career. As “the stringer” for the Tufts Men’s Lacrosse team for several years, many players used this head and raved about how much they liked it. The mesh crests a nice deep pocket, which is nice, but this isn’t really anything special compared to a standard hard mesh. I figured it might be something special to come factory strung with a custom strung price tag. The top string seems unlikely to last a full season and the shooting strings are pretty lazily strung across the top part of the head. I’ve generally been an STX guy for my whole life, but I was interested in trying out something new.
These heads work exceptionally well for practicing on an acoustic kit. However tuning with these heads requires a very different approach from tuning drums with batter heads. Remo is now offering a new line of single ply mesh drumheads for quiet practice applications. The single ply mesh material features a soft spring like feel at very low decibel levels.
